TV Talk with Shaun Omac

Media Blvd with Kenn and Angela Gold

Severe Radio

After a little prodding from Shaun Omac (TV Talk) and Kenn Gold (Media Blvd) during my visit to Oakley over the Memorial Day weekend, a new feature to TulsaWxChaser.com is here!  We'll be broadcasting an internet radio program on BlogTalkRadio to discuss the weather, chasing storms and other weather related topics!

We'll depend a lot on listener involvement, so I hope you'll not only listen to the show, but I encourage you to call in!  That's right, you can call into the show and talk live with me and my guests or you can join the chat room on BTR.

I'm currently looking for some good topics.  If you have an idea for a topic, or if you'd like to join me as a special guest, please email me at ChasesStorms@live.com.

This is an exciting new venture.  I hope you'll join us each week as we bring chaser information, weather news, and events, to internet radio.

Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m., CT

Your Questions Answered
Last Updated:  7/5/08

Here's some of the questions being asked about the radio program.  I'll add more as they come in.  If you have a question, send me an email at ChasesStorms@live.com.

Q.  Why are you doing the radio show and not using Severe Studios live cam or UstreamTV?
A.  Good question.  I looked at both Severe Studios and UstreamTV and both are great services.  But, with each service I found inherent problems with video being "borrowed" and used without permission and it limited interaction with you, the chaser fan.  Also, I didn't want to worry about technology problems when out chasing.  During a chase, our focus needs to be on chasing, not running a TV show.  BlogTalkRadio seems to adequately bridge the gap between the web site and getting our storm chasing fans involved.

Q.  How often will you be broadcasting Severe Radio?
A.  Although an exact schedule hasn't been developed yet, the plan is to broadcast a live show every week.

Q.  What's the length of the show?
A.  I'd like the show to be 60 minutes, but we'll play that by ear.  The first show or two will most likely be 30 minutes in length.

Q.  Will I be able to call in to the show?
A.  Definitely.  One of the great features of BlogTalkRadio is the ability for listeners to call into the show from a telephone or from a computer with a microphone.  The call-in number will be displayed during each show.

Q.  Does it cost anything to call in?
A.  BlogTalkRadio does not charge you to join a program.  You don't even need an account with them.  But, the call-in number isn't a local Tulsa number.  If you're calling in from a land-line or cell phone, your normal long distance rates will apply.  To avoid long distance charges or using up your cell phone minutes, get a microphone for your computer and simply press the "click to talk" button at the top of the program screen.  (Don't worry, you'll see it during the broadcast.)

Q.  Do I have to sign up for anything to listen or call-in to the show?
A.  No.  You don't need a BlogTalkRadio account to listen to the show or call into it.  However, if you want to type messages to the chat room during the broadcast, you will need to sign up for a free listener account.  You can sign up before the broadcast at http://www.blogtalkradio.com or you can create your listener account during the broadcast.

Q.  If I miss a live broadcast, can I still listen to the show?
A.  Yes.  The shows will be archived and can be played at your convenience, 24/7.

Q.  I normally listen to blog-casts on my Ipod through Itunes.  Can I still do that?
A.  Yes.  Archived shows are automatically forwarded to Itunes.  The link for subscribing for this feed is located on the show profile page at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/TulsaWxChaser.

Q.  Will you be broadcasting live from actual storm chases?
A.  We have the capability to broadcast the show during a chase.

Q.  Can I make a suggestion for a show topic?
A.  Yes. Yes. Yes.  I want to discuss the things you're interested in.  All you need to do is send me an email at ChasesStorms@live.com with your suggestion.  Some of the already suggested topics are listed in the right panel of this page.

Q.  Is the radio program eventually going to replace the TulsaWxChaser web site?
A.  No.  Severe Radio is just an extension of the TulsaWxChaser web site and a way to enhance what we've been building with the site.

Q.  I have a blog.  Can I put a link to your show on my blog?
A.  Definitely and that would be greatly appreciated!  Linked buttons and the player codes are available at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/TulsaWxChaser.
